Photoshop or GIMP?

Which do you have, or prefer?

Neither.

I have GIMP because Photoshop costs money that I could spend on things I actually care about.

It's useful, though, for when I need to get work on some advanced things (transparency, scaling, so on) that Paint can't do.

I use both. There are pros and cons to each.

Pros: Nothing.
Cons: It requires not being lazy, and guess who?

Off the top of my head:

Photoshop
Pros:
Pen tool
Easy effects
Pressure sensitivity for tablets
Cons:
Expensive
Complicated
Brushes can be a pain
Can't animate (to my knowledge)

GIMP
Pros:
Pencil brushes feel really natural
Simpler interface, easier to navigate
Can create animated GIFs right in GIMP
Free
Cons:
Less tutorials and resources than Photoshop
Windows start in stupid places when you start the program (for me anyway)
No pressure sensitivity for tablets
You need to do most effects manually

In short: Photoshop is better for drawings, GIMP is sometimes better for linear designs. Photoshop has preset effects (i.e. drop shadow), GIMP does not.

Agreed, Photoshop seems less user-friendly, but it has a TON of features. And when you install Photoshop, you get ImageReady at the same time, so you can still make gifs.

But why switch apps if you don't have to? I've never used Imageready.

Of course. You can make something from scratch if you're good

Just when I thought CS3 was new, it became obsolete just as fast.

I thought you successfully pirated Flash just hours ago? CS4, no less. So high-brow.
