After GX, the series just kinda...disappeared. Based off the anime storyline(and from F-Zero Climax(GBA, only in Japan)), Captain Falcon is considered dead and gone into hiding. Maybe that's why there hasn't been a new F-Zero in ages.
Well, in the anime, Captain Falcon wasn't a person - it's just a title passed from person to person. Unless I'm mistaken, Rick Wheeler/Whatever-The-Hell-His-Japanese-Name-Is becomes the new Captain Falcon at the end of the anime.
Nintendo's just being stingy, like they are with Star Fox. We'll get a new one eventually.
Oddly enough, ignoring the DS one because I've never played it, I've found that the Star Fox titles have been improving since the SNES - I HATE the first one, found 64 to be mediocre at best, enjoyed Adventures, and thoroughly enjoyed Assault.
Which is funny, 'cause most people seem to think the opposite.
No, that would be stupid, since the anime wasn't particularly well received, and neither were the games based on it. It would be like introducing Sonic's sister Sonia after that crappy TV spinoff. Just... weird.

Read: F-Zero Climax for the GBA
Which didn't even come out across the Pacific Pond.
Well, as far as Mother 3 goes, you can't really blame Nintendo. The sequel to a series that had failed miserably released on what was for all intents and purposes an obsolete handheld that they gave up over a year ago?
EarthBound, though... I mean, **** you Nintendo on that one.
The combat was RPG combat. Very bare bones, and it turned me off at first, too... but when you really delve into the game and get all your badass attacks and items, not to mention that twist of real-time battle, it becomes fun and frantic and fantastic.
Also, I do not hesitate to say that EarthBound has the best plot of any Nintendo game ever. The final boss? Yeah, giant fetus in the womb. It's all inference, but when you really look at things, it gets CREEPY. Also, brilliant dialogue, hilarious enemies... there's not a single flaw with EarthBound, really. Except maybe the fact it's a bit boring at the start and aimless in the middle. Otherwise, fantastic.
I have no idea what it was about. I was gonna emulate it, until I saw one of the battle screenshots. It looked like one of those old, low-profile, low-budget Internet RPGs. You can't even see yourself for god sakes. That turned me off almost at once.
