Damn shame. Went off his rocker a while back, but his impact in music is unparalleled. I mean, he was the Elvis of the 80s. King of Pop without a doubt.

Well, it's been a few years since his child molestation scandal, and he was planning a new world tour. Supposed to be coming back in a big way. Wasn't in much trouble. Still looked at as eccentric, of course - but you can't just grow out of that. So he was on the rise, which is certainly better than dropping dead on a downward spiral.
