This week, Tingle is in the Shenandoah Valley, the most fertile region in Virginia and the "Breadbasket of the Confederacy" during the American Civil War. In fact, if you look under his arm, you can see some officers on horseback. It's no one in particular, though, as the time in which the illustration was published in 1861, at the war's outbreak; neither "Stonewall" Jackson nor Philip Sheridan would have started the Valley Campaign at that point.
He may not look it, but the little man in green is an ardent supporter of State's Rights.
