Short answer: it plays similar to Fire Emblem, with a few key differences. Oh, and its punishingly hard.
Long answer: biggest defining difference is the "union" system. This means that whenever you start a battle as you would in FE, your unit will bring other units into battle with them depending on your formation. Males will bring units diagonal to them, females horizantal or verticle.
Obviously, the enemy does the same thing, so you're always trying to line your units up so you can fight them in the right order. The other big thing is that at the beginning of each turn, you'll use a card that determines your movement (this is shared by all your units) ATK power and available skills for the turn. It's an intersting mechanic.

It's almost as unique as the one in Knights. I like :D Too bad my GBA is out of commission. It's still usable, but there aren't any more games being sold for it.
That was a weird and rather shallow plot twist if you ask me. It was like saying "Oh yeah, and these guys were also oppressed. Also, they built some tower thing at some point, but we have no idea when that actually happened in the timeline of the game's events."
And I don't get why killing Alier destroys all of the tiamats. Or why she wanted to fight Wilmgard in the first place.
