I don't think "main character" is the correct term. Isn't the trainer you play is the main character? It is the main legend though. I dunno, its almost cool but they kinda made it just look dumb.

Giratina wasn't that useful. Origin Form(e) had slightly better stats though.. And it's the natural choice for the 3rd version Pokemon.
