But an RPG that is based on stats but has little of the traits I mentioned usually makes a bad RPG. I say stats and not role because I think you play a poor role in pokemon due to the lack of story and character depth.
Mmm. But a lot of people would say that, I dunno, an FPS sucks because it doesn't have online. While online has become a staple of the FPS genre, it isn't what defines it. Same thing with RPGs - while stories have become VERY important, that's not what makes it an RPG.

I suppose. But even so, the model of RPG that was awesome on the Gameboy Color is getting a bit old, especially for the DS.
RPGs are always defined by two things: numerical stats, and storyline. To 'role-play' is to take on the role of some character other than yourself, there fore the story is important. You wouldn't want to play and RPG if its story is boring or based on real life.
